Peabody chiropractor Scott Kline accused of having ‘spy camera’ in bathroom
A Middleton chiropractor has been accused by a patient of hiding a “spy camera” in a public bathroom at his business in Peabody.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Peabody Chief of Police Thomas Griffin confirmed in a press release Wednesday that Scott Kline, 44, of Middleton, was arraigned Tuesday in Peabody District Court. He was charged with photographing an unsuspecting nude person.
On Friday, July 14, one of Kline’s patients contacted Peabody police and reported he had been in a public bathroom earlier that day at Back on Track, Kline’s chiropractor’s office.
The unidentified man told police “he observed a black plastic coat hook hanging on the wall next to the toilet tank that looked out of place.” He looked closer and saw a blue light on the side of the hanger and what he thought was a “hidden spy camera,” featuring a front lens, USB port, power switch and an SD memory card, the press release said. Police say before leaving, the man documented what he saw on his cell phone, which he gave to police.
Police got a search warrant and looked through Back on Track, but didn’t find the device. However, they did find evidence that suggested something had been there, police said, as well as “several pieces of digital evidence including hard drives and SD cards.”
At Tuesday’s arraignment, bail was set at $10,000 and Kline was ordered to stay away from and have no contact with the man who reported the situation to police, according to officials.
Following the arraignment, the case was referred by the Essex District Attorney’s Office to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office to avoid a potential conflict of interest. Peabody Police and Massachusetts State Police are also investigating.
There will be a pretrial conference Aug. 29 in Peabody District Court. The Mass. licensing board that governs chiropractors has also been notified, officials said.
If anyone thinks they may have been recorded on the bathroom camera, they should contact Peabody police at 978-538-6300 or 978-531-1212.
